![]() ![]() I’m not really sure what I was expecting from Iron and Magic, but I certainly got more than whatever that was.įor the sake of honestly I should tell you something. ![]() I read the whole book in a day, and have no regrets about it.Īctually, once I was finished with the book I had to sit back and think about it for a day or two. I can’t tell you how great of an idea that was for me. ![]() I shameless bought two copies this novel a dead tree copy to add to my Ilona Andrews shelf, and a digital copy so I wouldn’t have to wait to read it. Based on what happened, I’m sure we can all guess what the intent was, but I won’t spoil that for you here. It has to get us, and certain characters, to a specific point in order to have the events in Magic Triumphs make sense. That takes guts, but is also really kind to us fans.īesides being fun though, this book actually serves a very important purpose. I have to give this creative duo credit for this this listened to their fans and made a novel they had never intended on solely because of the reaction to it. Ilona and Andrew Gordon originally made a ‘snippet’ of a Hugh novel as an April Fool’s joke, but it got so much attention and was so loved by the fans that something eventually came of it. In case you don’t know the backstory of how this book came to be, it’s actually a pretty funny tale. In fact, fans of the series should absolutely recognize the main character here: Hugh d’Ambray. Iron and Magic is the first in the Iron Covenant novels, but it’s set in the same world as Kate Daniels. ![]()

And, there’s no efforts being made to collect or re-collect older issues of the title – since the assumption is that all of the fans already own all of the collections! The stories start to feel repetitive and insular. There’s no extra effort being put into marketing it beyond that existing core of fans. What makes it so good is that Little Men also has the same sentimentality and heart as it's predecessor. But isn't that what we love about Louisa May Alcott? She's such an idealist and really wants you to be better without being preachy. It has the same type of transcendentalist ideals that Little Women propagated like self-reliance, independence, equality, and access to education. Of course it does still have the same analysis of morality, lessons about being your best self, and 19th Century platitudes. What I liked so much about Little Men is that it stayed true to the spirit of the original novel despite a completely new and different story. ![]() It is a fantastic sequel to my most beloved Classic.
